Constitution Day: The Christian Response in an Age of Political Polarization September 17 7:00 P.M. Free Admission Science Lecture Hall, SEU Faculty from the Department of Humanities discuss the role of the Christian in contemporary American politics. In an era of political divide, what perspective should Christians have in regard to the current political state of the nation? What does God call us to do? Who has he called us to be? Following the discussion panel, there will be a Q&A session with the audience.

Wind Ensemble Concert October 25 7:30 P.M. General Admission $5 / Students $3 Bush Chapel, SEU Come and enjoy an evening presenting the various sounds of the American spirit in works inspired by the National Anthem, a hymn tune of the American Revolution, and the jazz-inspired sounds of George Gershwin. This concert features Omar Thomas’ “Of Our New Day Begun,” written to honor the nine beautiful souls who lost their lives to a callous act of hatred and domestic terrorism on the evening of June 17, 2015 while worshiping in their beloved sanctuary, the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church (affectionately referred to as “Mother Emanuel”) in Charleston, South Carolina.
The Power of Poetry: An Evening with Odilia Galván Rodriguez October 29 7:00 P.M. Pianist Charles Hulin with tenor Jeff Prillaman: The Italian Liszt November 6 7:30 P.M. General Admission $5 / Students $3 All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Lakeland In this unique concert, Dr. Charles J. Hulin presents selections from the Italian volume of Liszt’s “Years of Pilgrimage” inspired by Renaissance painting and sculpture, joined by Juilliard-trained tenor, Jeff Prillaman, for Liszt’s settings of Petrarch sonnets.

Choral Concert: With Heart and Hands and Voices November 12 7:30 P.M. S. Bach and G. F. Handel, music focusing on man’s efforts to find meaning through work and love, as well as songs of thanksgiving.
Percussion Ensemble Concert November 13 7:30 P.M. General Admission $5 / Students $3 Bush Chapel, SEU Staff Sergeant Tim Perry from the U.S. Army Concert Band “Pershing’s Own” joins the SEU Percussion Ensemble to present a concert of music from around the world. Highlights include sounds from Africa, India, South America, and the Caribbean.

A concert of “Legends” as notable composers explore epic tales. Francis McBeth’s tone poem, Of Sailors and Wales and John Mackey’s This Cruel Moon portray scenes from two literary classics, Herman Melville’s Moby Dick and Homer’s The Odyssey.

Percussion Recital of Mr. Brian Blume March 3 6:00 P.M. General Admission $5 / Students $3 Band Room, SEU Professor Brian Blume performs a contemporary blend of marimba and percussion works, including some of his own new compositions and arrangements. Special guest Dr. Colin Hill, professor at Tennessee Tech University, joins Prof. Blume to present a brand new commission for marimba duet, entitled “Drifting,” by Kevin Bobo.

Oracle Open Mic and Release Party March 14 7:00 P.M. Free Admission Bolin Library Oracle Open Mic Night is a time of literary fellowship. Attendees are invited to read poetry and excerpts from short fiction, novels, and drama. Attendees are welcome to read from their favorite authors or original works. Light refreshments are provided. Following the readings, the departmental journal, “The Oracle,” will be released!
