November Small Business of the Month

Mike Marcewicz founded Mike’s Painting & Home Improvements, Inc. in 1990.  Since that time Mike’s Painting has been serving the Lakeland, Mulberry, Bartow and Plant City areas.  He built this company’s reputation into one of the leaders in the painting industry.

Mike’s Painting believes in prompt service and the highest quality and professionalism from start to finish.  From a single room to an entire home, each square inch is coated with this philosophy.

Mike’s Painting operates 6 fully equipped vehicles and a staff of professionals to ensure a quality job each and every time.  With 15 to 20 employees, on average, Mike’s Painting is the leader when it comes to residential painting, with thousands of satisfied customers.  From start to finish Mike’s Painting will ensure that from the preparation to the finished product your home will look its best and last for many years to come.  Mike’s Painting is also the leading company for your entire commercial needs.  They have expertise in working off high lifts, spraying large amounts of paint to save time and understanding which materials are best for your project.  Many other services offered include expert color advice, drywall repairs on both walls and ceilings, popcorn ceiling painting or removal, pool decks, stucco repair, pressure washing, wood replacement, waterproofing, stone and brick houses, sealing of patio pavers and all types of texture finishes.  Whether it is a small settling crack or full sheets of drywall replacement, Mike’s Painting can remedy the problem.

Thousands of satisfied customers have put their trust in Mike’s Painting and the company’s reputation of superior customer service over its 18 years of operation.  Mike’s Painting is licensed, insured and bonded, all employees are drug test and a complete background check is performed.  What is the key to the company’s success?  Its integrity and teamwork!

Mike’s Painting is also proud to give back to the community by sponsoring several youth athletic programs, community foundations and charities.  All employees are encouraged to do the same as well as volunteer within the community.

The Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate Mike’s Painting & Home Improvements, Inc. as the Small Business of the Month award winner for November.

Web 2.0, are you ready

I thought of a couple of friends when I saw this article. It references why companies should jump into the Web 2.0 world, and details the bad habits of some others. For those that don’t know, Web 2.0 is a general term for the interaction on the web (social media like Facebook and Linkedin as well as  blogging, and micro blogging like Twitter  among a lot of other areas). A better definition can be found here.

So if you are interested in your organization diving in or just interested into what i am talking about, make sure you at least ask these “bigger” queestions before you consider these media channels:

- Are we willing to not just listen, but to respond and adapt based on the back and forth?
– Are we willing to become active participants – not just in our channels but in the other channels and spaces as well?
– Are we willing to change the focus from being about our company to being about everybody – us, them and the entire community?
– Are we willing to be participants with just as much fervour and passion when it’s not good for us, but good for the community or the industry as a whole?
– Are we willing to be open?
– Are we willing to be really, really open and transparent?

I am not even sure that i can answer yes to the questions on all the projects i have worked on, but now I will.  I hope you take a look at the article and other articles on this so called new media. Media as we know it is changing, and changing fast, where will your company be?

Why Buy Lakeland?

If you ask me, I can think of an endless number of reasons to remember our Chamber’s “Buy Lakeland” campaign.

… it builds our schools!

… it paves our roads!

… it employs our neighbors!

… it makes good cents!

In fact, if we’re not careful, I may just come up with a top ten list every day! As the holiday season gears up for big sales and even bigger stress, look to your local retailers for great gift ideas and even greater service. From large “big-box” stores to local mom & pop boutiques, our retailers offer a fabulous assortment of gift options along with all the assistance you need in shopping for your loved ones and your holiday time together.

This year, with the news reporting stories of economic downturn and cautious buyers, it is more important than ever that our community bands together to keep our dollars local! Remember, that gadget you bought online might not have cost quite as much, but your computer can’t provide you with the same service or assistance that your neighbor can! Visit our Preferred Business Directory to get started on your shopping and let our local retailers know how much you appreciate their contribution to our economy!
