2019 Lakeland Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Nominating Committee Report

The 2019 Board of Directors Nominating Committee, in accordance with Articles VIII and XII of the Chamber Bylaws, was charged with developing a slate of twelve (12) individuals to serve a three (3) year term on the Board of Directors.

Accordingly, we are pleased to present the following slate to the membership for election, effective January 1, 2019:

Per the Bylaws, the membership has the opportunity to place additional names in nomination by presenting a petition signed by no less than thirty (30) members. Such petition must be filed at the Chamber office no later than September 15, 2018.

If nominations are received from the membership, a ballot bearing names of all nominees will be issued to the membership for vote no later than September 25.  Members will have no less than five days in which to vote.  The number of nominees with the highest number of votes shall be declared elected.

If no additional nominations are received from the membership, the slate proposed by the Nominating Committee will be considered elected by acclamation.

FLORIDA CHAMBER TO MEET WITH LOCAL CHAMBERS

LAKELAND, FL (August 31, 2018) – The Lakeland Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce host the Constitutional Revision Commission – A Business Perspective with keynote speaker Christopher S. Emmanuel, Director of Infrastructure and Governance Policy at the Florida Chamber of Commerce, on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Schalamar Creek Golf & Country Club, located midway between Lakeland and Winter Haven.

Christopher Emmanuel 

Christopher Emmanuel is the Director of Infrastructure & Governance Policy at the Florida Chamber of Commerce, where he serves as the primary advocate for transportation, utilities, energy, and property rights issues on behalf of the state’s largest business association. Emmanuel sits on the Florida Transportation Plan and Strategic Intermodal System Implementation Committee, serves a Railroad Advocate for GoRail, and is a member of the James Madison Institute’s Board of Advisors.

Prior to the Florida Chamber, Emmanuel served as a Policy Advisor for Governor Jeb Bush’s presidential campaign and for Governor Rick Scott’s 2014 gubernatorial campaign.  Emmanuel has served in the Florida House of Representatives as an analyst for the prominent Regulatory Affairs Committee. While completing his law degree, Emmanuel was selected as a Gubernatorial Fellow placed within the Department of Economic Opportunity and received the Jeb Bush Award for Policy.

Emmanuel holds a B.A. in Political Science and History from the University of Florida and J.D. from the Florida State College of Law.  He is a member of the Federalist Society, an alumnus of Florida Blue Key, and is admitted into the Florida Bar. Emmanuel and his wife Elizabeth live in Tallahassee.

Local and Regional Candidates to Participate in 2018 Hob Nob

LAKELAND, FL (July 12, 2018) – The 2018 Political Hob Nob being hosted at the Rocking H Ranch on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, provides an occasion to meet with local and state candidates and learn more about them.

In an effort to increase awareness of and participation in the elections process, the Lakeland Chamber provides this opportunity for the local community to speak with candidates and local clubs at their respective booths.  Attendees will vote in a Straw Poll administered by the Polk County Supervisor of Elections from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM with the results announced that evening at 7:45 PM.  Candidates will take the stage to introduce themselves.

The Rocking H Ranch provides the perfect “Old Florida” backdrop for the event.  Originally, an old Cattle Ranch, it now is one of the leading Agritourism spots in Florida.  Attendees will also enjoy great BBQ, beverages, valet parking and good company.
