RC – Leukemia & Lymphoma’s Light the Night Walk

The 7th Annual Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Lakeland was this past Saturday. At Munn Park.

From the Light the Night Website:

The Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s nationwide evening walk. Walkers carry illuminated balloons to celebrate and commemorate the lives touched by cancer. Funds raised will support our mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

It was a pleasure to see all the participants and enjoy some great food, thanks to Executive Director Carroll Franklin.

Parker Street Ministries

Here at the Chamber Blog, we tend to due more “press release” type posts. I am working hard on gathering other types of content for our avid blog audience. Here is a meager attempt to chisel ice of our beautiful facade. This morning I attended the Emerge Lakeland Professional Development Breakfast and met a temporarily disabled (Leg injury of some kind) agent of change that works for Parker Street Ministries. A bright young professional who seemed to have a passion for her current engagement at Parker Street, Ms. Francine Previte. She was excited to discuss what Parker Street was doing, and trying to recruit volunteers to help join the cause.  I wouldn’t dare try to explain what they do, because it would be such an injustice to them I love to let people write about them selves because they tend to do a better job then I. So here is some info:

Parker Street Ministries is a faith-based, nonprofit [501(c)(3)] organization based in the Parker Street neighborhood of Lakeland, Florida. This area is located just north of PSM Logodowntown Lakeland and is a very broken, marginalized and forgotten part of town.  Parker Street Ministries works to reconcile and revitalize this part of town through various programs, such as the Academic Enrichment Program, Summer Camp, community dinners, the Christmas Store, holiday dinner delivery, a home-ownership initiative and more. Currently we are very much in need of volunteers to help with our Academic Enrichment Program (M-F 4:30 – 6 p.m.), as well as those interested in helping with our holiday initiatives beginning next month. If you would like to volunteer with Parker Street Ministries or receive more information, you may contact our office at (863) 682-4544, or e-mail Francine Previte at francine@parkerstreetministries.org  Volunteers, in-kind donations and financial support are always needed!

Parker Street is great way to get involved if you are looking for a way. If you do contact them, please let them know you heard about it from the Chamber Blog. Have a great Friday.

September Small Business of the Month – Classic Controls

Classic Controls, Inc. is an instrumentation, valve, and system representative, serving industrial customers in the State of Florida in the power generation, chemical, phosphate, food, pulp & paper, water, and wastewater process markets.

In 1991, Classic Controls, Inc. was founded by Ray Anderson, joined by Shawn Warren and two other employees. A year later Jim LeVine joined the team. Now in their 18th year of business, Classic Controls, Inc. has grown into one of the most respected representative firms in the State of Florida. Shawn and Jim recently completed their buyout from Ray, but Ray is still an integral part of the team. Together, Shawn, Jim, Ray and their 18 employees bring their talents and dedication together to serve their customers.

Classic Controls, Inc. started as a pure sales office, but it quickly grew to add full service Classic Controls September SBA Winnercapabilities including instrument calibration & repair, system integration, and control valve repair.

The owners and staff represent and service the highest quality products that measure such things as flow, pressure, level, temperature, pH, conductivity, etc. and monitor and control it with systems small to large, down to the final control elements of control valves. When it comes to controls, they have it covered for your plant.

What’s the company’s key to success? Its team! “We have been truly blessed in the quality of each employee that has joined our team and shares our vision of customer satisfaction” says co-owner Shawn Warren. That’s certainly not an easy undertaking- in addition to learning about each product and service, team members must also support each division equally.

The owners of Classic Controls, Inc. live by the phrase, “Do the right thing”. These simple words offer a solution to complicated challenges and have been the foundation of trust for their customers and principals. Classic Controls, Inc. is also proud to “do the right thing” by giving back to local communities, schools, youth sports and charities. They have been supporters of many charities and encourage their employees to do the same.

The Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate Classic Controls, Inc. as the September Small Business of the Month award winner.
