Countdown Day #9… Check the Chamber Calendar

We’re on a mission as we countdown the days to 2010… help our members create their best year of Chamber membership ever! Each day, we’ll post a success tip – be sure to read them all and make plans to join us in 2010 for a fabulous year!

Countdown To Membership Success

9: Check the Chamber Calendar.  The best way to get value from your investment is to attend Chamber functions. The best place to find out what is going on is the Chamber calendar.

Most members find that there is more going on at the Chamber than they have time for.  Therefore it is wise to check the calendar and make certain to attend the programs and events of interest to you.

You’ve invested in the Chamber with your dues; it just makes good sense to ensure that investment returns a profit. Chamber membership gives you access to the people you need to meet.  Attending Chamber programs will give you opportunity to meet those individuals to whom you are seeking access.

Check the calendar and mark yours.  Attend events often.

Make Plans Now for the Best Year of Your Chamber Membership

As we near 2010,  we’d like to offer a countdown to your best Chamber Membership Year ever. Each day as we come closer to the beginning of the new year, we’ll offer a tip for success with your Chamber membership.

Countdown To Membership Success

Today, at number 10, “Meet the Chamber Staff”:

The staff at your Chamber of Commerce is here to help you get more from your Chamber membership.  Make certain that we understand what you do and what you wish to accomplish by being a member.

Most people who join the chamber do so to meet other people.  While the Chamber serves as a meeting point for key business and community leaders, it also serves as the meeting place for business people from all walks of life. When the staff knows you and understands what you are looking for, they will be better equipped to help you in your endeavors. When you meet staff members, take a moment to understand what they do for the Chamber so that you will know the right person to go to when you have questions or needs.

Knowing the people who will be working on your behalf is a vital step in successful Chamber members.

Members Celebrate At Business After Hours

On Thursday, Fifth Third Bank & Stone Center welcomed Chamber members and guests into the newly remodeled Stone Center showroom at 2205 E Edgewood Drive. Cabinets and granite lined the walls decked with greens and reds.

Since 2005, Fifth Third Bank has hosted the December Business After Hours event, making the transition for their downtown branch in 2008. With a smaller lobby and less parking, Market President Patrick Fagan decided to share the hosting opportunity with Fifth Third customers, building on the Chamber’s encouragement of members helping members.

With plenty to eat and drink, members spent the evening networking, meeting new contacts, and dreaming of new kitchens and baths.  Linda Harkins, with Fifth Third Processing Solutions was the guest chef for the evening and prepared hot and cold appetizers and beautiful desserts for everyone to enjoy. There was a smile on every face, especially when it came time for door prizes.

Calling all Young Entrepreneurs

I love, love, love that I get emails and tweets and comments and more that alert me to the newest and coolest things online. Sometimes I feel like there is just so much information out there, that it would be easier to ignore than to try to sift through it all!

Somehow along the way, I signed up for an E-newsletter from some online radio show about small business trends. Each week, I graciously pull up the email in my reader pane and glance to see if anything looks like it would benefit me or the Chamber. Now, don’t get me wrong, there is never enough time for learning when it comes to small business, big business, or even life- so don’t glance too quickly! There’s a tidbit in every newsletter, but only if you’re open to finding it.

Back on track, today’s radio show features (at 1:30 p.m. Eastern):

Natalie MacNeil co-founded Garage Entrepreneurs shortly after starting her first business as a student entrepreneur. Garage Entrepreneurs is the community she says she wished she had when she started her first business. Natalie is passionate about encouraging young people to consider entrepreneurship as a career option. She shares her insights on young entrepreneurs, what it takes to build a successful business, and the impact of the recession on new businesses.

What an awesome concept! Garage Entrepreneurs offers support and sounding boards to students & young entrepreneurs. It’s a free site with tons of resources and plenty of support from peers.

I certainly don’t expect that everyone who reads this blog will run right our and join the site, but I hope that you’ll at least keep it in your memory banks to share with the next budding sticky note developer or search engine genius. But, in the mean time, keep building your business with your Chamber membership- it’s fun & it usually includes food. What more could you ask for?
