Lakeland Companies Ranked in TBBJ FAST 50

Congratulations to fellow Chamber Members Nujak Development Inc. (ranked #8) & Kyra Infotech Inc. (ranked #22) for being listed in the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Fast 50. Also included was Lakeland-based Q&Q, Inc. It is exciting to see more companies in the Lakeland area being honored regionally.

In other news reported by the TBBJ, the City of Lakeland’s variable-rate energy system revenue and refunding bond received a boost to its Standard & Poor’s Rating. That is excellent news in an economy that you don’t hear a lot of positive remarks.

I also received a press release this week from St. Leo University announcing that,

DSM Technology Consultants, a prominent Central Florida technology consulting firm, has

contributed $10,000 to Saint Leo University to assist the private, independent institution draft plans for a new

School of Business building.”

Its great to see local companies with a heart for philanthropy. I hope other companies consider a donation to our local universities and colleges. Nearly all are planning for glimmering future: one is building a new applied technology campus, another has recently opened an office in Jerusalem, and a third is planning to expand to full 4-year programs.

Its exciting to see such great steps in education being taken right here in Polk County.

Join Us on LinkedIn

That’s right; the Lakeland Chamber is taking another step forward by joining in the social networking rage. LinkedIn is a professional business networking site that allows individuals to keep and make business contacts. It allows you to post a pseudo-resume, and check out your “connections” business histories. It even allows you to make introductions so one business contact can meet another. I believe it is a great tool for those of us here in Lakeland to get out of our boxes and find new ways to network. By joining the Lakeland Chamber group you don’t even have to wait for an introduction, you will be able to contact others in the group directly. So come join our Group on LinkedIn.

You may have noticed, the Lakeland Chamber Tweets on the right. We would love to see you there, so come follow us on Twitter.

Also we added the sociable plugin for wordpress so that you can post information on your favorite social networking sites. The sites that we have added are ones that are familiar to us at the Chamber. If you have suggestions for other sites you would like to see featured let us know. If I get multiple responses for the same site I will add it.

Event Marketing Provides Highest ROI

The largest and longest-running annual survey of corporate sales and marketing executives, EventView 2008: North America, reveals that events generate the highest ROI of any marketing channel. This is just one of the top-line findings of a study produced by a unique collaboration between The Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Foundation, the Event Marketing Institute (EMI) and George P. Johnson (GPJ).

ROI Table

The Chamber’s annual Catalyst Campaign provides member businesses high-quality opportunities for business to business event marketing as well as business to consumer event marketing. With marketing dollars stretched to the limit, the trends are seeing event marketing dollars increase in percentage compared to total marketing budgets nationwide- 27% in 2007.
