LAKELAND, FL: Southeastern University will be holding several town halls leading up to the elections in November.
Ross Spano will be speaking on Thursday, October 11, at 1:25 p.m. and Kristen Carlson will be speaking on Monday, October 22, at 10 a.m. Both events will be held in the Buena Vida Auditorium.
Republican state representative Spano and Democratic attorney Carlson are in a tight race for Florida’s 15th Congressional district, which covers parts of Hillsborough, Lake and Polk counties. The seat is open this year due to Congressman Dennis Ross’ decision to not seek re-election.
The events will provide the opportunity for students to hear from each of the candidates and also ask questions.
“Events like these help to engage students in the civic conversation and raise their awareness and confidence in these discussions. They also help to instill in our students the importance of active participation in our political process and issues that affect our world and lives every day,” said university president Kent Ingle.
Members of the media are invited to attend; however, the events are closed to the public.
