Posted by Amy Wiggins on February 1st, 2010

CFDClogo The Central Florida Development Council, Inc. of Polk County will host a super region transportation conference on February 23, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The Lakeland Center, 701 Lime Street in downtown Lakeland. Keynote speaker is Pat McCrory, the former mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina who is credited with spearheading the community’s 25-year transportation plan through expanded bus service and light rail through the city.

Called “Connecting the Region Through the Movement of People,” the conference will include sessions on a super regional transportation overview, Polk County’s future transportation plans, the Charlotte success story and will provide an opportunity for attendees to ask a panel of experts pertinent questions and to share views. Invited speakers include state, regional and county community, economic development and transportation officials.

“There are few issues today as critical to successful community and economic development as transportation,” said CFDC President David Touchton. “Tampa and Orlando are aggressively pursuing mass transit options and Polk County is a key component to regional plans because of our location at the center of the super region.”
